MARINER'S COMPASS QUILT - American, 1870s, cotton. A Mariner's Compass quilt composed of red, orange, and green printed fabrics on a solid white ground. Hand-pieced and exquisitely quilted. Attributed to Elizabeth Hartman, wife of Peter Hartman, who made it for her daughter Emeline in Wayne County OH. 92” long, 88” wide. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio; purchased from Xenia Cord, 2000.
