Alexander Wilson and Prince Charles Lucian Bonaparte, American Ornithology; or, The Natural History of the Birds of the United States. London: Chatto and Windus, 1876. 3 volumes, 8vo, in the publisher's green morocco-backed red cloth-covered boards, pictorial gilt spines. Alexander Wilson is considered among the most important ornithologists working in America in the 19th century, and his American Ornithology ranks just under Audubon's Birds of America in terms of imporant works on American birds. This edition includes Bonaparte's continuation, which he produced after Wilson's death. Provenance: private collection.
Condition: Wear, rubbing, and some soiling to the spines and boards, internally, even toning, some of the boards have begun to separate, and a few pages are loose. Overall G.
