OHIO CLASSICAL CHEST OF DRAWERS - Probably Cincinnati, c. 1830, cherry and poplar. Bowed, overhanging drawer flanked by carved floral medallions, over three graduated drawers, each with bookmatched veneer, and flanked by carved and rope-turned columns, all on ball feet. Provenance: collected in Madison, Indiana. The carving and turning closely relate to a number of pieces of Cincinnati classical furniture, including a secretary-bookcase that is illustrated and discussed in Richmond, Equal in Goodness: Ohio Decorative Arts, 1788-1860, entry 163.
