SIGNED INDIANA BLANKET CHEST - George Washington Hollowway, Crawfordsville, Indiana, mid-19th century, walnut and poplar. Chest on high legs, and with four interior drawers, one of which is signed ”GW Holloway Crawfordsville Ind Oct 2[?] 1858.” 32.5” high, 39.5” wide, 20.5” deep. Holloway (1834-1896) grew up in Crawfordsville, and there, according to the 1850 census, apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He continued in the trade through his family?s move to Terre Haute in the late 1860s. He married Susanna Graham (1835-1897) and had three children, the middle child, also George, grew up to become a noted photographer. Condition: Good; original surface, wear, original porcelain pulls
