OHIO BLANKET CHEST - Mifflin County, Pennsylvania or Darke County, Ohio, 2nd quarter-19th century, walnut and poplar. Paneled construction, with turned feet. 26” high, 50” wide, 20” deep. Inside are early family history labels and accompanying the chest is a letter from a descendant of the original owner. She identifes the original owner as ”Malachi Brandt” who was born in Pennsylvania and later moved to Darke County, Ohio. Geneaological research has located Melcki Brandt, born in 1830 in Mifflin County, PA. He was in Ohio by the birth of his first child in 1854. It cannot be confirmed whether he purchased the chest before his trip west or upon his arrival. Also included is the auction and and ticket from when the family sold the chest in 1993.
