VANCE POTTERY HOUND-HANDLED PITCHER - Tiltonsville, Jefferson County, Ohio, early 20th century. Molded hunt scene on the body, hound handle, and a matte green glaze. 10” high. This form came to the US from England via New Jersey and Vermont, and upon reaching Ohio in the middle of the 19th century, was made in both East Liverpool and Cincinnati. Vance made them for only a few years, and nearly a half century later, during the art pottery movement, and with glazes that closely resemble the matte glazes used on art pottery.
