EARLY CHESTERVILLE, OHIO DAY BOOK - 1840s-1850s. Small book filled with daily trasactions arranged by customer, mostly agricultural purchases and sales, but does include some furniture (some, perhaps all, made by other locals). The owner of this book, Edwin Harris (1816-1879) was born in Connecticut and came west, settling in Morrow County (living in both Bennington and South Bloomfield Townships. Although consistently listed as a farmer, his day book paints a picture of a very active commercial life, buying, selling, and bartering agricultural goods, as well as manufactured goods, especially furniture. Covering nearly 20 years, this day book records the daily economic life of rural, 19th century Ohio. Condition: Expected wear and toning, appears complete and binding is intact
