MASSILLON, OHIO FRAKTUR - Stark County, dated March 30, 1879, ink and watercolor on paper. Made for Peter Fuchs, and it reads ”Sir. 32, 24 / Thue / nichts ohne / Rath / so / gereuet dich's nicht / nach der / That / zum 30 Marz 1879 Peter Fuchs” which translates to ”Do nothing without counsel, so do no worry about the deed To the 30 Mar 1879 Peter Fuchs.” In an old frame (with wavy glass), 19” high, 16” wide (overall). The verse is from the apocryphal or deuterocanonical books Ecclesiasticus (sometimes referred to as the Wisdom of Sirach). The citation is slightly wrong as this verse is actually verse 24 in chapter 33 (not 32).Peter Fuchs was born in Germany in 1849, came to the US in 1873, married Jacobina Schmidt in 1874, and by the spring of 1875 was living in Stark County with his wife and newborn daughter.
