WESTERN RESERVE CANDLESTAND - Poland, Ohio, early 19th century, maple. Round top, turned standard, and folksy cabriole legs. Retains its orignal, alligatored surface. 29.25” high. This candlestand was purchased from Truesdale Mayer in Poland in the 1980s, who said it was ”local.” Truesdale was an early newsman in the Cleveland area and was descended from the Truesdale family who came to the Western Reserve from Washington County, PA in the early 19th century. One of Mayer's ancestors was Robinson Truesdale of the clockmaking firm of Hart and Truesdale. Condition: Minor age crack to the top, stable crack to the base of the standard
