SUITE OF PRINTS FROM SCENES OF THE PRIMITIVE FOREST OF AMERICA BY GEORGE HARVEY (ENGLISH, 1800-1878) - New York, 1841, handcolored aquatints. Four views, one for each season: ?Spring, No. 2: Burning fallen trees in a girdled clearing, Western scene, ? ?Summer, No. 3: A road accident, a glimpse thro' an opening of the primitive forest, Thornville, Ohio, ? ?Autumn, No. 4: Gigantic sycamores, an ox team crossing the ford, Owl Creek, Ohio, ?and ?Winter, No. 5: Impeded travellers in a pine forest, Upper Canada.? Identically matted and framed, 17.5” high, 10.75” wide (sight), 25” high, 18” wide (overall). Harvey partnered with Washington Irving to produce a monumental work of American scenes with Irving's text. Harvey completed about 40 watercolors, but the book project proved too expensive to complete as envisioned, and instead, the pair produced about 250 copies of a slim folio with only these four prints, along with text by Irving for each.
