PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN - American, mid-19th century, oil on canvas. Half-length portrait of a man in a black suit and with shoulder-length hair. In a period/original frame. 26.25” high, 21.25” wide (sight); 31” high, 25” wide (overall). By tradition, the portrait is of a Mr. Bromley of Kentucky. Additionally, an old, damaged note on the back suggests that this was painted by Hea[illeg], the court painter to Louis Phillippe. None of this information could be confirmed. Condition: Needs cleaned, a few minor spots of damage.
