WEST VIRGINIA BOOKCASE - Late 19th century, walnut and poplar. Two-piece, the upper section with two four-pane doors and the lower section with two raised panel doors. 89” h., 45” w., 17” d.This bookcase descended in the family from Homer A. Holt (1898-1975). Burn in Lewisburg, Holt was a West Virginia lawyer and politician, and he served as governor from 1933-1937. It is not known if Holt collected this bookcase or if it was a family piece. His grandfather was also Homer A. Holt (1831-1898) and also a lawyer. Either way, it's likely this bookcase was made in West Virginia, probably in the Lewisburg area. Condition: Refinished. Missing upper door latch, missing proper left cornice, original glass.
