THREE PORTRAITS OF THE KLIPPART FAMILY OF OHIO - All oils on canvas. Includes a portrait of John Hancock Klippart (1822-1878) by Silas Martin (1841-1906), unframed, 18? high, 14.5? wide; a portrait of his wife, Emeline Rahn Klippart (1829-1823) by John Henry Witt (1840-1901), in its original oval frame, 31? high, 27? wide (overall); and a portrait of their daughter, Josephine Klippart (1848-1936) by Silas Martin, unframed, 27? high, 22? wide. John Klippart served as secretary of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture from 1856-1878, and daughter Josephine was an accomplished artist who helped with the illustrations for Genevieve Jones?s Illustrations of the Nest and Eggs of Birds of Ohio (1886). Condition: Josephine has a few small punctures; Emeline has significant losses; John has been removed from his stretcher and has numerous losses.
