PAIR OF OHIO LANDSCAPES BY RUTH MATTISON (OHIO, 1845-1922) - Oils on canvas. Autumnal landscapes in their original frames. 16” high, 20” wide (canvas), 22.5” high, 26.5” wide (overall). These were purchased out of their original home in South Charleston, Clark County, Ohio. On the stretcher of each painting is the original art supply label from T.C O'Kane of Delaware, Ohio (active in the 1870s). Also on those labels is written ”Miss Mattison” (incorrectly ”Miss Madison”). This is likely Ruth Mattison, who was born about 1845 to Matthew and Margaret Mattison of Clark County, Ohio. Ruth never married and remained at home, dying in 1922. Condition: As-found, ”attic” condition; one with minor bump and loss, the other with puncture and 3/4” diameter loss, both need cleaned, framed with some loss and both frames repainted
