QUEEN ANNE SLANT-FRONT DESK - Attributed to Peter Bartlett, Salisbury, New Hampshire, c. 1785, maple and pine. Desk over four graduated drawers, resting on a base with bandy legs and a central drop. The desk interior has a starburst-carved central prospect flanked by document drawers with applied turnings, and flanked further by fan-carved drawers as well as cubbies. 42” high, 39” wide, 18” deep, writing height is 32”. Provenance: From the collection of the late Dr. James Dawson, sold to benefit the Dr. James Dawson MD Women's Clinic in Uganda; Ex Clark Garrett (Ohio), sold at one of his final auctions at Mike Clum Inc. (Ohio). Condition: Old finish, replaced lid hinges, a few bits of the original hardware are damaged or missing.
