PORTRAIT OF TWO CHILDREN - American, mid-19th century, oil on canvas. Large, full-length portrait of two children sitting on a sofa in front of a classical landscape. The oldest is feeding a bird and the youngest is holding a sprig while a black squirrel perches on the sofa crest. In its original gilt frame. 49” high, 35” wide (sight), 59” high, 45” wide (overall). Condition: Lined, sagging on the stretcher a bit, there is some canvas separation along some of the edge (mostly at the top) where the canvas has torn along the fold around the stretcher corner, would benefit from a light cleaning, wear and loss to frame.
