PORTRAIT OF BERNICE CLEMENT LONG ECKEL - Oil on canvas, unsigned. Full-length portrait of an older Eckel, wearing a green dress and pearls, and holding a fan. In a period/original frame. 44” high, 29” wide (sight); 51.5” high, 37” wide (overall). According to tradition, this portrait was painted about 1940 by a New York artist ”T.V. Talmadge” and based on an earlier photograph. Eckel (1876-1951) was born in Beverly, Washington County, Ohio, grew up in Zanesville, and later lived in Chicago and Buffalo. The dress she wears in the portrait was purchased at the close of the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 by Mrs. Ross Clement Long, Eckel's mother. Condition: Appears good, not removed from frame for examination.
