MARJORIE JANE REED 'BUTTERFIELD OVERLAND STAGE COACH' INK SKETCH - Original ink sketch on paper by listed artist Marjorie Jane Reed (CA, AZ, 1915-1996), signed lower right. Features the Butterfield Overland Stage Coach, a subject for which Reed was renowned. Art measures approximately 5.5” H x 10” W presented in a frame measuring 12” H x 16” W x 1” D. Artist bio: Reed gained a reputation for paintings of western scenes, particularly Butterfield Overland Stage coaches and other scenes of cowboys, horses and figures associated with the Overland Mail Route. She became the youngest member of Artists Alley which was a Western artist's Mecca at the time. Nearby residents included Clyde Forsythe, Eli Harvey, Norman Rockwell and Frank Tenney Johnson. Exhibition venues included the Biltmore Salon and Ebell Salon in Los Angeles, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the Desert Inn Gallery in Palm Springs, and the Palm Desert Art Gallery in Palm Desert, and the Rosequist Gallery in Tucson, Arizona.
