J. & E. STEVENS CREEDMOOR MECHANICAL BANK - The material of this bank is painted cast iron. It was designed by James H. Bowen and manufactured by J. & E. Stevens Co. in the late 19th century. The bank measures approx. 7” H x 10” W x 2” D. To operate, a coin is placed on the rifle barrel and the soldier's foot is pressed. This ”shoots” the coin into the target on the tree trunk and the soldiers head moves to take aim.  James H. Bowen (1877-1906) was an American cast iron bank maker known for his whimsical and detailed designs. Bowen's banks, often featuring children or animals, were popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, offering a playful approach to saving money.
