HOWARD HOUSE 'MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE' OIL PAINTING - Original mountain landscape oil painting on board by listed Oregon artist, Howard Elmer House (1877 - 1969), signed lower left. Art measures 30” h x 24” w presented in a frame measuring 36” x 29”. Artist bio: House was a pupil at the Chicago Art Institute and The Chicago Academy of Fine Art. He arrived in Portland in the 1930's, and became a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and the American Artists Professional League. In some of his early landscapes, he appears to have been influenced by California Plein-Air artists. His portrait paintings included prominent politicians such as President John F. Kennedy, one of which hung in the Kennedy Library, and Lyndon B Johnson. A large portrait of Benjamin Franklin was believed to be commissioned for the Portland based Benjamin Franklin Savings and Loan. Portraits of entertainers such as Liberace were also produced, as well as privately commissioned works.
