J.&E. Stevens Hand-Carved Wooden Foundry Patterns Axe/Pulley/Lever Arm - This remarkable group of three original J. & E. Stevens hand-carved hardwood foundry patterns represents an incredible historic find from the legendary J. & E. Stevens Company factory in Cromwell, Connecticut. The patterns were used to create sand molds for casting toy, bank, or hardware components and include a multi-tiered circular pulley pattern with a central alignment boss, a wedge-shaped axe head pattern with integrated core prints, and an elongated lever arm pattern featuring a drilled mounting plate. J. & E. Stevens produced tools before concentrating on toys, and these patterns were used at the factory as historic display items before later being found in storage there prior to the factory's demolition. Each is hand-carved wood and was used in preparation for casting parts, circa 1880. The typed display cards paired with them were likely created by factory executives in the 1930s or mid-20th century to catalog and preserve some of the oldest remnants of the foundry's 19th-century manufacturing history. The pulley measures approximately 8” D, and the lever arm measures approximately 11.5” L. The overall condition is very good. Condition: VERY GOOD
