Early 20th c. Pastoral Oil Painting - Signed Gene Laym - Oil on canvas painting depicting a rural scene with mothers and children in a field, 1937. Signed ”Gene Laym” and dated along the lower right. Height: 27 1/2 in x width: 39 in x depth: 1 in. Condition: Due to an uneven varnish, it is difficult to ascertain whether there are regions of inpainting or restoration. There are two torn and punctured regions along the left third of the painting; there is an additional third tear along the lower right quadrant. There are two impact points along the lower third. Some craquelure throughout. There are areas of scuffing along the extreme edges, as well as along the lower left quadrant of the work. Accretions along the surface. The work is not framed.
