RABBI YOSEF SHALOM ELYASHIV, HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER ADVISING DAILY STUDY OF SEFER CHAFETZ CHAIM EVERY DAY WITH THE INTENTION OF PUTTING ITS TEACHINGS INTO PRACTICE, AS A METHOD OF PENITANCE. Long and interesting letter in which the leading halachic authority of his time, Rabbi Elyashiv, expresses sympathy to a family who had suffered tragedy. In reply to their enquiry as to which way to improve themselves spiritually, he replies that as he does not know the family he cannot tell them which area of their lives requires improvement. But despite this, based on the teachings of Chazal and of the Vilna Gaon, he advises that the family should study the Sefer Chafetz Chaim every day, with the intention of putting its teachings into practice.
