Rare and interesting letter written by the famous saintly gaon Rabbi Yehuda Aszad, Rabbi of Szerdahely, to Rabbi David Yehuda Pollack, a disciple of his. The letter is dated 1865 and was written about half a year before his passing. In it he expresses his pleasure at his disciple’s wide Torah knowledge and reassures him not to worry about disturbing dreams and not to fast because of them. Rabbi Yehuda Aszad (1794-1866), a leading disciple of Rabbi Mordechai Banet of Nikolsburg, and outstanding Torah authority and revered Cabalist. Dayan of Szerdahely – where he established a large Yeshiva and was later appointed Rabbi of the town. Engaged in frequent Torah correspondence with the Chassam Sofer, and was widely considered to be his successor as the leading rabbinic authority in Hungary. Author of Yehuda Yaaleh, Chidushei Maharya and Divrei Maharya. Rabbi David Yehuda Pollack (d. 1912), a son of Rabbi Yitzchak Zekel Pollack of Bonyhad and a disciple of Rabbi Yehuda Aszad. A distinguished and learned member of the community of Lapos, Hungary. Father-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer of Derecska (1885) and Paks. 2 sides. 10.5 x 17 cm. Generally good condition.
