UNIQUE! RABBI YAAKOV SHALOM SOFER, DAYAN OF TOPOLCANY. RARE HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER WITH TORAH CONTENT, ADDRESSED TO RABBI MOSHE SHICK – THE MAHARAM SCHICK. Letter dated 1843, shortly after the passing of the writer’s father, Rabbi Mordechai Efraim Fishel Sofer. Rabbi Sofer expresses his feelings of loss and his wish to benefit the soul of his late father through his Torah studies. Letters from Rabbi Yaakov Shalom Sofer are very rare. Rabbi Yaakov Shalom Sofer (1813- 1851), son of Rabbi Mordechai Efraim Fishel Sofer of Pressburg. Close disciple of the Chassam Sofer, and also studied under Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Heller of Obuda. Son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Friedman of Topolcany. Dayan of Topolcany, but passed away at a young age after a frightening dream in which the Chasam Sofer asked him if he would agree to join the Beth Din Shel Maala (the Heavenly Court of Justice) – see Olelos Efraim p. 8. Rabbi Moshe Schick (1807-1879), one of the greatest disciples of the Chassam Sofer and famous Hungarian Rabbi, Rosh Yeshiva and leading halachic authority. Rabbinic leader of Hungarian orthodox Jewry, Rabbi of Yergen (Szentgyorgy) and Huszt, and author of over 1000 halachic responsa published in Shaalos Uteshuvos Maharam Schick, and of other works. 3 sides. 20 x 25 cm.
