RABBI YEHUDA LEIBISH SAFIER, RABBI OF HOMONA, LETTER IN PRAISE OF SIR MOSES MONTEFIORE. Letter dated 1864, written in response to the proposal of R. Eliezer Lipman Silberman of Lyck, editor of Hamaggid, to publish a book containing letters of appreciation and blessings to Sir Moses Montefiore from rabbis and communities around the Jewish world. In this letter, Rabbi Yehuda Leibish Safier, Rabbi of Homona, supports Rabbi Silberman’s idea and praises Sir Moses Montefiore for his activities to help Jews around the world. Remnant of red wax seal. Letters by Rabbi Yehuda Leibish Safier are very rare. Rabbi Yehuda Leibish Safier (1802-1882), son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, Rabbi of Homona, succeeding him in 1828.
