Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1959), First Portrait of Annabel Freud (with Bonnet), 1952 - Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1959), First Portrait of Annabel Freud (with Bonnet), 1952   Patinated bronze, signed ”Epstein” (on rear), and raised on a slate base.  Together with , a signed letter from the artist on his stationary, dated August 17, 1956 to Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Curtis, discussing their recent acquisition of the work, of which the artist notes, ”I am very fond.....”    Dimensions : 7 in. high (the bronze); 11 in. high (overall)   Provenance : Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Curtis, thence by descent.  From an Abington, PA collection.   Annabel Freud (b. 1952) is the daughter of artist Lucian Freud and granddaughter of Epstein.  She and her sister Anna were the subjects of several bronze busts by Epstein before his death in 1959.   Condition: In good overall condition.  The slate base with a label numbered ”2 68 S18”.  The note not examined outside frame and with some fading.
