George II Ebonized Bracket Clock, William Valentine, Royston, Mid 18th Century - A George II Ebonized Bracket Clock, William Valentine, Royston, Mid 18th Century. The bell top case with brass handle and four finials over an arched door with brass sound frets to either side, raised on ebonized bun feet. The eight-inch arched brass dial with strike/silent dial to the lunette above a silvered chapter ring having Roman hours and Arabic minutes, within cast spandrels, the center with recessed signature plaque incised 'Willm Valentine / Royston', above an engraved basket of flowers and date aperture. The twin train fusee movement with wire lines, having a verge escapement with knife edge pendulum suspension, striking on the hour on a single bell, trip hour and quarter repeat striking on a rack of three, the backplate engraved with a large pagoda and Chinoiserie motifs. Dimensions: Height including handle 22in; width 12in; depth 7in. Provenance: Property from the Collection of an English Gentleman. Condition: The case in overall restored condition. Rubbing to case and bass at high points and along edges and corners. There are minor losses to the veneers. At the time the condition report was written, the clock was maintaining power and striking correctly. With case key. We cannot guarantee the completeness and functionality of the clocks movement.
