Pennsylvania Sheraton Cherry and Tiger Maple Secretary Bookcase - A Pennsylvania Sheraton Cherry Secretary Bookcase, Mid 19th Century. Surmounted by an old associated removable open bookcase. One document drawer with pencil inscription signed and dated 'November 14, 1849'. The rectangular top with blind dovetails over a hinged fall with mitered corners and thumb molded edge, enclosing a tiger maple interior fitted with a flame grained central prospect door to reveal a removable bank of tiger maple drawers and pigeon holes, concealing three secret drawers behind, flanked by vertical document drawers, further flanked by two long valance drawers to either side over three pigeon holes and three small drawers, all above four graduated beaded drawers, sunken panel sides, raised on turned feet. Tulip poplar and pine secondary wood. Dimensions: Height overall 70 1/2in; width overall 43in; height of desk 46in; width 41in; depth 21in. Condition: Structurally sound. The bookcase is an old addition to the desk. General marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches. Minor shrinkage and age cracks to the hinged fall. Several patches to the interior of fall from previous hinge tear outs. The valance drawers with old breaks and patched repairs. All drawers are unlocked, no keys.
