American School, Early 19th Century, Portrait of a Boy - Pastel on paper laid upon canvas, unsigned and in a good period gilt gesso frame. The reverse of the canvas bears the text, ”April 1st 1869, Chas A. Hardy by G. Stuart when he was 12 years old, Grandfather of G.A. Hardy and D. Hardy, Father of C.D. Hardy, picture is about 85 years old at present. E. D. Hardy”   Dimensions: the pastel is 18” x 15”, the frame 25 1/2” x 22”.    Provenance: from a Bucks County, PA estate.  Condition: Some wear to the pastel. The frame shows typical wear and minor losses.
