Two Portrait Miniatures of Young Boys, Early 19th Century. Watercolor, unsigned. Each child with short brown hair, blue eyes and wearing a white dress. One portrait with woven hair to the reverse and the other with paper label to the reverse inscribed 'James Waller Hewett / Born Nov. 7, 1804 / Died 1821? / Son of James Waller Hewett / 10th Light Dragoons / Brother of my Grandmother / Frances Hewett Ledlie'. Each framed in a rose gold filled locket case.
Dimensions: Dimensions of each overall approximately 2 1/2 x 2in.
This lot comes from an Upper West Side, New York City collection that will be featured in a short lecture by noted specialist of portrait miniatures, Elle Shushan. Not examined out of the frames. Each portrait appears to be in generally good condition overall. The locket cases with typical wear, toning, scuffs and surface scratches throughout.
