Two French Vide Poche, Alphonse Giroux
Two French gilt bronze table articles, Alphonse Giroux et Cie, Paris, mid 19th century, comprising a gilt bronze mounted onyx and champleve enamel vide poche, incised 'ALPH. GIROUX. ET. Cie PARIS.' and a gilt bronze terrestrial globe form vide poche, incised 'ALPH. GIROUX A PARIS.', raised on a later square marble base.
Dimension:Height of larger 6 1/2in; diameter 6in; height of smaller2in; diameter 5 7/8in.
Provenance:From a Main Line collection.
Condition: The champleve enamel and onyx example with general marks, wear, hairlines to onyx. Typical wear and toning to metalwork. Scattered small areas of verdigris and oxidation to the underside at nut and bolt. The nut, bolt and washer is a later replacement. The gilt bronze globe form example with typical marks, wear, rubbing and toning. With four vacant holes suggesting there is an element lacking. The square marble base is later, with minor glue residue.
