Two Antique Cast Iron Sad Irons - This lot comprises two antique solid cast iron laundry tools, commonly known as sad irons, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. One iron features a refined, contoured cast iron handle integrated into the heavy body; a raised casting mark, which appears to be the numeral 7, is located on the top surface near the handle base. The second iron exhibits a more utilitarian design with a simple strap-iron handle. Both items are of solid cast iron construction with a traditional triangular footprint and flat soles used for pressing fabric. These items were designed to be heated on a stove before use.
