Wedgwood Commemorative Beaker for the 1934 Amalgamation of Wisbech and Walsoken - This commemorative beaker was manufactured by Wedgwood and is composed of white earthenware, specifically Queen's Ware. The vessel features a tapered, handleless form with a gilded rim. The exterior is decorated with blue transfer-printed designs. The front face displays the coat of arms for the town of Wisbech, which includes a three-masted ship as the crest above a knight's helmet with scrolling mantling. The central shield depicts two figures standing within arched niches. The reverse side features a commemorative inscription in blue block lettering that reads: TO COMMEMORATE THE AMALGAMATION OF WISBECH & WALSOKEN APRIL 1934. JOSEPH SMITH MAYOR OF WISBECH THOMAS BURLING WARDEN OF WALSOKEN. A small blue trefoil or shamrock is positioned below the text. The base contains several identifying marks, including a blue transfer-printed factory mark for WEDGWOOD ETRURIA ENGLAND and an impressed WEDGWOOD mark.
