5pc Herend Hungarian Porcelain Chess Pieces - A group of five hand-painted porcelain figurines from a chess set produced by Herend of Hungary. The set includes a King, Queen, Knight, Rook, and Pawn, each modeled in traditional Hungarian folk attire. The King is depicted with a gilded scepter and orb, the Queen in a red bodice and blue cloak, the Knight as a hussar mounted on a white horse, the Rook as a kneeling soldier with a sack, and the Pawn as a female figure in a red vest and white blouse. Each piece is constructed of glazed white porcelain with polychrome hand-painted decoration and 24 karat gold accents. The base of each figurine bears a blue underglaze stamp featuring the Hungarian coat of arms surrounded by the words HEREND, HANDPAINTED, and HUNGARY. Additional markings include incised numbers 5533 and 5534 on the bases of the Knight and Rook respectively, while the King figure features hand-painted blue numerals 1 and 158.
