Rafael Barrios (Venezuelan, b. 1947), Artist Proof, Virtualism Wooden Sculpture, Signed - Created within the framework of the Biennale and its curatorial theme, ”FREESPACE, ” this work by Venezuelan artist Rafael Barrios (b. 1947) explores illusionism and visual magnetism, qualities particularly evident in the artist's geometric sculptural practice. The contemporary sculpture comprises seven matte-white, rhomboid geometric forms that curve and project from a black-painted wooden base. The composition creates a dynamic optical effect, appearing to shift between two-dimensional planes and three-dimensional volumes as the viewer's perspective changes. The underside of the wooden plinth is stamped with a copyright notice reading 1983/1984 RAFAEL BARRIOS. The base is further marked with a date stamp 22 NOV. 1983 and includes a handwritten signature in black ink Rafael Barrios N.Y. along with the inscription A.P. for artist proof.
