Large Egyptian Carved Wood Funerary Boat Sculpture - Featuring Egyptian motifs inspired by the Middle Kingdom era. Large hand-carved and polychrome-painted wooden model of an Egyptian boat, featuring a hollowed hull fitted with fourteen individually carved rowers, each posed with a wooden oar, and a larger steersman figure at the stern. The gunwale is decorated with alternating green and reddish-brown circular motifs above vertical striping. The upturned bow and stern terminate in stylized gazelle-like animal heads with black-and-white striped horns and flared ears. A central rectangular canopy, raised on four supports, is embellished with hand-painted Egyptian motifs, including the Eye of Horus, a star, spiral, and wavy designs, along with decorative black characters. From a private collection; its exact origin and period are undetermined. With oars the sculpture is 56”W x 16.75”H x 20.25”D. Without oars the sculpture is 56”W x 16.75”H x 11.75”D.
