Bidspirit auction | John Skeaping for Wedgwood Creamware
John Skeaping for Wedgwood Creamware Figurine, Buffalo - This modernist glazed ceramic figurine depicts a stylized pig or sow, attributed to the designs of John Skeaping for Wedgwood. The sculpture features the simplified, smooth forms and geometric sensibilities characteristic of mid-20th-century decorative arts. The animal is modeled standing over a rectangular base, with the negative space beneath its body filled with relief-molded patterns resembling foliage or broad leaves. The piece is finished in a uniform, glossy cream-colored glaze throughout. The underside of the rectangular base is hollow-cast and unglazed along the rim. Several historical collection and inventory labels are present on the underside: a circular sticker for the Robert C. Butz Collection (numbered 43), a circular Rubin Collection label, a rectangular Skinner auction house label (sale 2280, lot 333A), and a yellow inventory tag numbered 111850. Wedgwood and Skeaping impressed mark on end of base. Dimensions: 10.00”L x 3.50”W x 7.25”H Weight: 2.12 lb Condition: Good
