Wedgwood Drabware Sea Life Desk Inkwell - A Wedgwood drabware desk inkwell featuring a marine-inspired design. The piece consists of a central ink container modeled in the form of a sea urchin, or echinus, which sits upon a pedestal base within a larger scallop shell-form dish. The item is crafted from buff-colored stoneware known as drabware and finished with a clear glaze. The fluted rim of the shell-form base is decorated with hand-painted blue leaf or feather motifs. The underside of the base bears an impressed WEDGWOOD factory mark. Additional markings on the underside include a circular silver sticker from the Rubin Collection and a rectangular paper dealer label with the notation c 1820.
