Wedgwood Egyptian Revival Black Basalt and Rosso Antico Canopic Jar - This lidded stoneware vessel is designed in the Egyptian Revival style and is part of the Wedgwood Egyptian Collection. The piece is constructed from matte black basalt stoneware featuring applied terracotta-colored sprigged decoration, a style historically referred to as Rosso Antico on basalt. The object comprises two sections: a footed base with a central interior well and a lid in the form of a female bust. The bust is depicted wearing a nemes headdress and a decorative collar with pendant drops. The vessel body is ornamented with several registers of relief motifs, including winged sun discs, ram heads, Greek key meander patterns, floral rosettes, and stylized papyrus or lotus plants. The foot is decorated with a geometric sawtooth border. Two silver circular collection labels reading RUBIN COLLECTION are affixed to the underside of both the lid and the base.
