5pc Wedgwood Marguerite Kirmse Non-Sporting Terrier and Working Dog Plates - This set of creamware plates was manufactured by Wedgwood at their Barlaston factory in England. The plates feature sepia-toned transfer-printed central illustrations based on original etchings and drawings by the animal artist Marguerite Kirmse. Part of the Non-Sporting, Terrier and Working Dog series, each plate depicts specific breeds in realistic poses, including a Boxer titled Champion Bang Away of Sirrah Crest, a Collie, a pair of Poodles (one black and one white), and Terriers. A recurring vignette of three puppies is positioned at the twelve o'clock mark within the central well. The rims are decorated with a continuous foliate and floral border. The undersides are extensively marked with printed text detailing the series title and artist. Each plate bears the Wedgwood circular factory mark with the vase icon and the text Etruria Wedgwood Made in England Barlaston. Also present is the circular Engraved by the Wedgwood Studios stamp. Specific dates for the original artwork, including March 1929 and October 1953, are listed on the reverse. Several plates retain paper provenance labels from the Benton and Beverly Rosen Collection.
