Wedgwood by Arnold Machin After Michelangelo Gilded Ceramic Relief, Madonna and Child - This mid-to-late 20th-century circular relief sculpture is a gilded ceramic work produced by Wedgwood. It is a reproduction of Michelangelo's celebrated marble Taddei Madonna, which depicts the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child and a young Saint John the Baptist. This high-relief composition was modeled by sculptor Arnold Machin, OBE, RA, for the Royal Academy. The relief is housed in a substantial circular gilded wood frame with a contrasting black inner bezel. The reverse is finished with a wooden backing plate secured by screws and features a central circular label in black and gold. The label identifies the maker, the sculptor, and the subject, and notes that the piece is from a limited edition of 750, though no specific edition number is inscribed in the provided space.
