Trio of Wedgwood Aesthetic Movement Octagonal Earthenware Plates Decorated at Mortlock's Art-Pottery - This trio of octagonal earthenware plates features central circular roundels with hand-painted scenes in the Aesthetic Movement style, reminiscent of late 19th-century book illustrations. The plates were produced as earthenware blanks by Wedgwood and decorated at Mortlock's Art-Pottery Studio in London. The first plate depicts four figures with long, flowing hair resting on a shoreline. The second plate shows three figures holding hands in a dance above a detailed cityscape. The third plate features a figure reclining within a crescent moon suspended over a city at night. Each plate has a wide, molded rim featuring geometric and basketweave patterns. The undersides of the plates bear several identifying marks and labels. All three plates feature an impressed WEDGWOOD mark. Hand-inscribed marks in red-brown ink identify the decorating studio: John Mortlock London. M.S. No 554; Mortlock's Art-Pottery Studio. Oxford St and Orchard St 669; and Mortlock's Pottery Studio Oxford St and Orchard St A F No 653. Two plates retain original paper labels indicating they were featured in the Richard Dennis Wedgwood Exhibition of 1882. One plate also features an impressed circular mark with a central character.
