Wedgwood Majolica Classical Scene Sea Monster Charger - A large Victorian Wedgwood majolica platter featuring a central relief-molded medallion of a classical female figure riding a sea serpent. The central figure is finished in a white glaze against a deep cobalt blue ground, while the serpent and water are rendered in mottled green tones. The wide rim features a dark gray ground decorated with yellow scrolling foliate arabesques. Set within the scrollwork are four additional sea creatures and relief-molded white flowers. The outermost edge is finished with a thin yellow border. The reverse of the charger bears the impressed maker mark WEDGWOOD and the numeral 234, along with small hand-painted marks in blue and red.
