This acrylic and marker on paper by Steve Penley is one artwork of a series of Statues of Liberty that embodies the manipulation of icons and heroes "to bring the viewer into a new way of seeing." The iconic "Liberty" is represented with a blood red background that runs onto its crown and its Abstract Expressionist strokes of bright white, blues, and yellow on the cyan colored statue convey the ever changing concept of freedom in contemporary America and the world.
