(Avalon books, 1960-70s). Most of the Avalon line's sweetheart books dealt in lighthearted romance with a touch of mystery. Edrien King also held fast to his standard book-design formula of a front-cover portrait and a spine-area vignette -- two paintings in one. Seen full-on in this original state, the art conveys a haunting subtext, almost three-dimensional in forced perspective. Accompanied by a copy of the sleeve.
