Roman Bronze Cupid Figurine Circa 2nd , 3rd Century AD
A cast bronze figurine of a winged Cupid, the Roman god of love and desire. The figurine depicts Cupid striding forward with his right leg advanced, his wings spread wide behind him . His facial features are carefully articulated, with deep-set eyes, a broad nose, and closed lips giving the impression of a serene and focused expression. Cupid's hands are engaged in holding a large, shallow bowl, in front of him. This gesture is a common one in depictions of Cupid, and is often interpreted as a symbol of his power to bestow love and blessings upon those who receive his gifts. Roman bronze Cupid figurines like this one were popular in the Roman world and were often used as decorative objects or votive offerings.
