Avrohom Abba Werner.  R. Shmuel Salant (1816-1909), learned in the great Yeshiva of Volozhin. After marrying the daughter of R. Yosef Zundel Salant, he adopted his father-in law’s family name. In 1840, he settled in Yerusholayim which at the time had a very small community of Ashkenazic Jews. From 1848 to 1851, he served as a SHaDaR (fund-raiser), visiting the principal cities of Lithuania and Poland to raise money for the impoverished Jews of the Old Yishuv. He was known as a great Talmid Chochom and was beloved by the general public. He succeeded R. Meir Auerbach as Chief Rabbi of the Ashkenazic Jerusalem. 28 by 21.5 cm. Fine condition.
