R. YOSEF DOV SOLOVEITCHIK. BAIS HALEVI/R. CHAIM SOLOVEITCHIK. MINCHAS YOSEF. WARSAW 1885. - Sefer Minchas Yosef authored by the renowned Shochet of Kehillas Brisk “R Yoshe Prager” with library stamps of The Bais HaLevi. Additional inscription stating the sefer the belongs to R. Chaim Brisker, with the signature possibly written by R. Chaim Brisker himself!  R. Yosef Dov (Yoshe Ber) Soloveitchik (1820-1892), was a great-grandson of R. Chaim Volozhiner. Known as an extraordinarily brilliant child, he learned in the great Yeshiva of Volozhin. He also spent some time in Brod where he learned with R. Shlomo Kluger. In 1854, he was appointed Rosh Yeshiva in Volozhin, where he served until 1865, when he was appointed Rav in Slutzk. Amongst his talmidim from that period were R. Yosef Rosen the Rogatchover Gaon (who learned with his son R. Chaim), and R. Zalman Sender Shapiro. He fiercely opposed the Reform movement and eventually, as a result of the activities of the Maskilim, he left Slutzk and moved to Warsaw. When the Rav of Brisk, R. Yehoshua Leib Diskin, left for Eretz Yisroel in 1877, the Beis Ha’Levy succeeded him as Rav. He led the community of Brisk until his passing, when he was succeeded by his son R. Chaim, who in turn was succeeded by his son R. Velvel and until today the name Soloveitchik remains synonymous with “Brisk”.  R. Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik known as R. Chaim Brisker (1853-1918), was the founder of the popular ‘Brisker’ approach to Talmud study, a method of highly exacting and analytical study that focuses on precise definitions and categorizations of Jewish law with particular emphasis on the RaMBaM. Following many years as a Maggid shiur in the renowned Volozhiner Yeshiva, he succeeded his father (Bais HaLevi) as Rav of Brisk. His primary work was Chidushei Rabbeinu Chaim HaLevi; a volume of insights on the RaMBaM, which was published posthumously by his sons. The Sefer is one of the most fundamental works in the Lithuanian school of Yeshivos. R. Yoshe Prager (died 1912) served as the Shochet of the renowned Kehilla of Brisk. A distinguished Talmid Chochom, he authored sefer Minchas Yosef on Hilchos Shechita. R. Yosef was extremely highly regarded and his sefer received approbations from R. Yehoshua Leib Diskin, R. Tzvi Hirsch Orenstein, The Bais HaLevi, R. Yitzchak Elchanon, The Netziv, The Minsker Gadol, The Malbushei Yom Tov, R. Shimon Sofer, The Nefesh Chaya and The Bais Yitzchak. R. Yoshe was particularly close to the Bais HaLevi and R. Chaim Brisker who relied upon him for Shechita. He was also closely associated with the Kobriner and Slonimer Rebbes.  91, 182, 3 pages. 29.5 cm. Overall fine condition, some wear, dry paper.
