Written primarily as a refutation of Aristotle and his theories. In his introduction The Sforno writes that although Aristotle’s teachings are universally accepted, many of them are contrary to Jewish thought.  R. Ovadia Sforno (c.1470-c.1550), in addition to his greatness in Torah excelled in several diverse fields: philosophy, mathematics, and particularly medicine through which he earned a living as a physician. This sefer was printed during the author’s lifetime, and the author invested great efforts in its publication. He later published a Latin edition under the title Lumen Gentium (Bologna, 1548).
